Kanha
Tiger Reserve MP
Kanha
National Park is
the land of the tiger. The endangered tiger
makes its last stand here with more than 22
species of mammals of Central India or the
state of Madhya Pradesh. Kanha is home to
more than 250 species of resident and
migratory bird, innumerous reptiles and
butterflies. Bird life is rich and now many
tour operators are offering special packages
for bird watching here.
By Asian
standards Kanha Park is large with an area
of 1945 sq.km of forest. The core one and
tourism hotspot is 945 sq.kms. The tiger
safaris are conducted in tourist zones as
permitted by the administration. The jeep
safari transacts through rich biodiversity
zones consisting of large grassy meadows,
mixed forests, bamboo slopes and pure Sal
belts. This offers the eco tourist a wide
view Kanha landscape and its amazing
wildlife.
Kanha is one
of the best managed tiger reserve in India
and earned fame by the conservation success
in bringing back from brink of extinction
the rare severely endangered Hard Ground
Barasingha or the Swamp Deer. One of the
best places to see the tiger in the wild the
number of tigers in the park is steadily
growing.
The tiger is
the main species and along with panther,
deer species, Sloth bear, Indian bison, wild
dog, and monkeys attracts eco tourists in
large numbers. Reptiles though less visible
attract specialist conservationists and
herpetologist for research end study.
Kanha is
reachable from Jabalpur town in MP, Raipur
Capital of Chhattisgarh and Nagpur in
Maharastra. Jabalpur is a railhead connected
to New Delhi, Mumbai and Calcutta. The air
service is presently between New Delhi and
Jabalpur. Bandhavgarh tiger reserve
is 7 hrs ride from Kanha
The park
re-opens from 16th October and closes on
June 31st.. Indian summers are
very hot while winters can be bitter cold.
